Planning a day trip or historical getaway? Ayutthaya, the former capital of Thailand and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just a short train ride from Bangkok. Traveling by train is the most affordable, scenic, and culturally immersive way to reach this ancient city.
Historic temples in Ayutthaya Historical Park
Most trains from Bangkok stop at Ayutthaya Railway Station, located on the east side of the Pa Sak River. From there, you can reach the historical park and temple ruins within 10–15 minutes by tuk-tuk, ferry, or bicycle.
Nearby you’ll find local markets, riverside guesthouses, and boat tours that offer a peaceful introduction to the city's cultural richness.
Ayutthaya Railway Station
Over 30 daily trains run between Bangkok and Ayutthaya, making it a convenient destination for both day-trippers and overnight travelers. Here are some popular routes and estimated ticket prices:
Bangkok - Ayutthaya: $1 to $10
Chiang Mai - Ayutthaya: $15 to $50
Sukhothai (via Phitsanulok) - Ayutthaya: $10 to $40
Nakhon Ratchasima - Ayutthaya: $8 to $25
Note: Prices depend on train type (Special Express, Rapid, Ordinary) and seat class (fan seat, AC seat, sleeper).
For short trips from Bangkok, no reservation is needed for Ordinary or Rapid trains—simply buy a ticket at the station on the day of travel. For long-distance trains (e.g., from Chiang Mai or Ubon Ratchathani), booking a sleeper or soft seat in advance is recommended.
Morning and late afternoon departures from Bangkok are the most popular, especially for tourists doing a round trip within the day.
Tickets can be purchased directly at Bangkok's Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal or Hua Lamphong Station, or online through Thai Railways and partner agencies. Select your train, seat type, and travel date. Payment is accepted via card or bank transfer.
For added convenience, we also offer support with local transport, bicycle rentals, and hotel bookings in Ayutthaya.
